3rd XI Award Winners 2020

30 Dec 2020 by Heyford CC Admin

The 3rd XI presentations took place pre-Christmas (don’t panic, we were still in Tier 2 and all Covid-19 rules were followed!) to reward the three outstanding performers in Heyford CC 3rd XI’s first season.

The 3rd XI had a fantastic first season, comfortably qualifying for the quarter-finals from a competitive Division 11 under the leadership of captain Andrew Taylor, and vice-captain Dave Baker.

Sally Cory was the standout performer with the bat with 120 runs at an average of 30. Sally is the Club’s first lady winner of a senior trophy and a great role model for the many young girls and ladies playing in the junior set-up at HCC.

Al Lovell won the bowling award with 13 wickets at a remarkable average of 7.15 (has Chris Peck ever bettered that?!). Dave Baker was close behind with 8 wickets and did enough with the bat to earn the All-Rounder of the Year accolade.

But more important than the performances of the individual award winners is the overwhelming success of the 3rd XI in terms of providing an opportunity for young (and a few older!) Heyford cricketers to play competitive adult cricket. James and Richard Marshall, Frankie and Ed Fowler, and Blake, Max and Neil Macleod all enjoyed some special father and son moments during the course of the season.

Congratulations to everyone on the committee for the significant effort that went into making the 3rd XI dream a reality, and to the senior players and captaincy team for creating such a welcoming environment for everyone involved.

Thank you also to Arthur Hanley (long-standing supporter, pictured), Andrew Taylor (3rd XI skipper), and Matt Baker (outgoing Chairman) for generously donating the new 3rd XI trophies.
