May at Heyford CC

3 Jun 2023 by Rob Pardon

It took a while to get going, but eventually the British Summer landed, and it’s been a largely decent start for Heyford CC as a whole after a complete washout on week one.

The 1st XI have been involved in a couple of remarkable games. The first fixture against Old CC looked all set for a Heyford defeat, with Old needing just 8 runs to win, with 5 wickets and 8 overs left. Against all odds, the game went down to the last ball, Old needed 3 to win and just one wicket remaining. All manner of results still available. Just a single taken, and Heyford took home a memorable victory by just 1 run. One the history books. Funnily enough, the following week, Heyford looked all set to win in a game in which they’d been on top throughout, but a late partnership from the Bowden lower order saw them home. The final game of the month will definitely go down on history books, with Heyford posting a club record of 371-8 off 45 overs – Josh Bastin secured his maiden 1st XI century scoring 130 off just 84 balls.

The 2nd XI’s start was hampered by availability, but secured their first win in Week 3 with a great all round team performance to beat Rothwell Town 2nd XI.

The 3rd XI is the place where we welcome our youngsters to adult cricket, so we have been delighted to offer debuts to 14 year old Theo Adkins, and 16 year old Lil Buckley… Theo was pick of the bowlers on debut, and Lil further add to Heyford CC’s growing list of women and girls playing for the club.

Our Junior Section is back and buzzing on Friday nights at the Playing Fields. With 30+ children in each of the ECB Programmes (All Stars aged 5-8, and Dynamos 8-10), plus an ever growing number of hard-ball cricketers in our Under 12s, 11s, and 10s.

On the field, our junior sides often come up against bigger, more established clubs in the locality. Nevertheless, both sides have picked up wins, with the U12s securing an excellent victory against Cogenhoe, and the U11s beating Brixworth.

Next month sees a full calendar of cricketing action, plus the Heyford CC Golf Day on Friday 23rd June – with 4-balls and sponsorship opportunities available, contact Simon Legge 07745 610786 or email heyfordcricket@hotmail.co.uk

Feel free to pop down the Playing Fields on Saturday afternoon to enjoy a little bit of leather on willow.
