HCC Update

18 Jun by Rob Pardon

Hi All

With around a third of the season completed, we like to share with an update from our season so far.

On the pitch, the 1st XI (at the time of writing) sit 3rd in the NCL Division with 5 wins and two defeats. A memorable victory against Stony Stratford a team highlight, setting the opposition 196 to win thanks to swashbuckling 83 from Conor Robson, the game went to the wire – a team effort with the ball saw Stony restricted to 192-9 to secure a win by just 4 runs.

Jimmy Edwards has stood out with the bat, with 384 runs, averaging 96 with top scores of 107* and 99, supported by Conor Robson with 196 @ 32. With the ball, Edwards again leads the charge with 15 wickets, supported by Will Cooper-Harris and Josh Bastin with 7 a piece.

The 2nd XI has two wins from the opening seven games, a memorable win over local rivals Kislingbury 2nd XI a real highlight. Heyford scored 192-7 thanks to Simon Legge (77), Krish Jasinarachchi (37) and Kyle Dufty (31), and ‘Kisle’ looked in prime position for to reach the target, but thanks to three wickets from 15-year-old James Juckes, and wickets for every bowler, the opposition collapsed from 167-5 to 175 all out for a Heyford win. Legge has led the way with the bat, amassing 332 runs with a best of 112*. Sebby Abbas and James Juckes are the pick of the bowlers with 8 and 7 wickets respectively.

The 3rd XI have been hampered by rain, and availability (Saints success has detrimental impact on Heyford CC), but in their one outing secured an excellent winning over Kettering Town 5th XI. A fifty from Simon Adkins set up victory, and then 3 wickets for 15-year-old Lola Kitching and two wickets on debut for 13-year leg spinner Archie McKechnie saw Heyford to a 30-run victory.

As some of the above will suggest, we’re always progressing young cricketers across the senior teams. In addition to Archie, two more of our Under 13s (Toby and Wilf) have made their senior debut. We’ve also handed first team debuts to 15-year-olds James Juckes and Olly Barnett. In many ways, seeing these youngsters progressing and enjoying their cricket is why we do what we do.

On the topic of junior cricket, our first season of having 3 junior teams is an exciting development. All 3 teams are playing competitive cricket, often against bigger more established clubs, and enjoying it along the way. For any Steelbacks fans, keep your eyes peeled on Friday 5th July where Heyford CC Juniors will be creating a Guard of Honour in Steelbacks fixture against Lancashire Lightening.

We have over 30 children in our All-Stars Programme (ages 5-8) and over 30 in our Dynamos (ages 8-10), so Friday nights see the club host between 75-100 children in total.

Off the field, our Golf Day was another success, and we were blessed with dry weather. Our pre-season Quiz night was welcome return to old tradition, and raised over £400.

All this is in many ways thanks to the dedicated army of volunteers, who ensure the club functions on and off the pitch. If you’re reading this, we can’t say thank you enough.

Finally, a word to our sponsors and patrons – thank you. Without your financial support, much of the above would be more difficult.

For our all of our VPs, Sponsors, Patrons and Volunteers, we are hosting our Club Celebration Day on Saturday July 13th, where we’d like to invite for tea with players, from 2:30pm.
